LegCo urges European Parliament to immediately stop slandering Hong Kong's development

The Legislative Council issued a statement saying that the European Parliament's report on EU-China political relations made false and biased allegations about Hong Kong, strongly condemning them and urging the other side to immediately stop slandering Hong Kong's development and interfering in Hong Kong's affairs. A spokesperson said the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance effectively safeguard national security, and Hong Kong continues to be rated as the world's freest economy, ranked second globally in world competitiveness and third globally as an international financial centre. Regarding the "Jimmy Lai case" and the "45-person conspiracy to subvert state power" case mentioned in the report, the spokesperson criticised the European Parliament's demand to release convicted persons as putting politics above court verdicts.
