Observatory: Chance of tropical cyclone directly affecting Hong Kong before end of month not high; only 3 rounds of warning signals this year

The Observatory expects the chance of a tropical cyclone directly affecting Hong Kong during the remaining time in October to be not high, with only 3 rounds of tropical cyclone warning signals issued so far this year. As of 6 October, there were 34 tropical cyclones in the northwestern Pacific and South China Sea, more than the long-term average of about 21; an anomalous anticyclonic circulation is expected to persist until late October, which is unfavourable for the formation of tropical cyclones in the South China Sea.
