Five-Year Plan and Policy Address joint debate: Legco members concerned employment cannot keep up

The Legislative Council began a three-day joint debate yesterday on the Hong Kong government motion for the first Five-Year Plan and the motion of thanks for the Policy Address. Chief Secretary for Administration Chan Kwok-kei said in his opening remarks that implementing the Five-Year Plan requires concerted efforts from all sectors of society, while House Committee Chairman Chan Chun-ying said members would listen to briefings from the authorities and follow up on policy effectiveness. He Junxian of the Election Committee constituency believes the economic benefits cannot benefit the whole of Hong Kong, stressing the need to safeguard the livelihoods of middle and grassroots citizens.
