The World Trade Organization on 8 October raised its forecast for global merchandise trade growth from 1.9 per cent to 3.9 per cent, with easing tensions between China and the US and between the EU and China giving open economies some breathing space. Hong Kong's exports rose 42.5 per cent year on year in the first 8 months of this year, with August alone up 53 per cent, driven mainly by AI-related equipment.
