Worker falls to death after losing footing while dismantling work platform at Tung Chung Yu Fung Court construction site

An industrial accident occurred yesterday afternoon at the construction site of public housing estate Yu Fung Court, 12 Wui Tung Street, Tung Chung. A 34-year-old male worker fell while dismantling a work platform used to shore up a temporary support frame for a tower crane on the exterior wall at the 13th floor of the building, and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital unconscious. Preliminary investigation indicated that the worker was wearing a safety harness at the time, but the other end was apparently not attached to a secure point. The Housing Department has instructed the contractor to suspend related construction works at the site, while the Labour Department has also issued a temporary suspension notice to the contractor.
