Centre suspends import of poultry meat and eggs from Rockwood, Manitoba, Canada

The Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced that, in response to an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in the Rural Municipality of Rockwood, Manitoba, Canada, it has immediately instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including eggs) from the area. According to Census and Statistics Department figures, Hong Kong imported no poultry meat or eggs from Canada in the first six months of this year. The Centre has contacted the Canadian authorities and will continue to monitor notifications from the World Organisation for Animal Health.
