Privacy Notice
Morning.hk provides summaries of Hong Kong news, developing stories and daily editions. This notice explains what data the site processes when you browse, choose a language or submit feedback, and why.
1. Browser data and language preferences
Saved stories, reading history, topic and appearance preferences, and feedback drafts are stored in your current browser. Clearing browser data removes these records. They do not automatically sync across devices. When you submit feedback, the content and attachments you choose to send are sent to the server.
Your language preference is stored separately in the site's morninghk-locale cookie for one year. It remembers the language for the homepage without a language prefix. The cookie is sent to the server with site requests and contains no saved stories or reading history. A language-prefixed URL takes precedence. Clearing the cookie removes the preference.
2. Feedback and contact emails
Feedback submitted through the site, an optional email address, the page URL and any attached screenshot are stored on the server to handle your request. To prevent abuse, the site limits submissions using an identifier derived from the network address and browser category. Internal Feishu notifications are currently disabled, so feedback and screenshots are not forwarded to Feishu.
Feedback and its associated email address, page URL and screenshots are kept for 90 days after handling is complete, then deleted. Unresolved feedback is kept until handling is complete, when the 90-day period begins. You can also request earlier deletion through [email protected].
Feedback emails and attachments sent to [email protected] are likewise kept for 90 days after handling is complete, then deleted.
3. Analytics and server logs
The site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand page visits and loading performance. Its browser script collects metrics such as page URLs, referring pages and loading performance. According to Cloudflare's service documentation, the script does not store data in the browser or read cookies or browser storage. Analytics data may be processed outside the visitor's country or region. See Cloudflare's analytics data processing documentation for details.
Server and network services may process IP addresses, access times, request paths and browser information to serve the site, diagnose faults and prevent abnormal traffic. General server access logs managed by the site are kept for 30 days, then cleared. Cloudflare's network and security services process data under their applicable policies; the Web Analytics documentation does not describe all network logs.
Internal scheduled-task records contain execution times, outcomes and processing details for troubleshooting. Completed and skipped runs are kept for 90 days after completion; failed runs are kept for 180 days, then cleared. Older records without a completion time use their start time. Report recovery progress is kept independently so that missing editions can be checked again later. These periods do not apply to container logs or model request receipts.
4. Backups and deletion
Backups managed by the site are kept for 30 days from creation, then cleared. After feedback and attachments are deleted from the site, copies may remain in older backups until those backups expire. If an older backup is restored, feedback and attachments that have expired or that users have requested to delete will be removed again to prevent deleted data from reappearing.
5. Third-party content
The site displays summaries and links to third-party articles. Following an original article link takes you to the publisher's site, where its privacy policy applies.
6. Model processing
The site uses models to process public news for selection, summaries and translation. It currently does not send user feedback, contact email addresses or screenshots to model services.
If models are used to help handle feedback in future, this notice will be updated before that processing begins. It will describe the purpose, the data sent and the provider's data handling practices. Users will be notified and any necessary consent obtained as required.
7. Contact
For questions about this notice, or to request access to, correction of or deletion of feedback and attachments you submitted, email [email protected].
