HKMA Clarifies Fake e-HKD Lending Scheme and Reports to Police

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority says it has recently received a large number of public enquiries involving people impersonating the e-HKD project to induce the public to sign agreements, falsely claiming that loans would be converted into e-HKD assets. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority clarifies that these fraudulent agreements and lending schemes have absolutely no connection with the authority, that it will not contact members of the public about personal financial matters or transfer funds, and that it has reported the matter to Hong Kong police. Members of the public who have provided personal information to the relevant websites or applications or suspect they have been defrauded may contact the police on 2860 5012.
