【Studying in Hong Kong Series】HKUST President Nancy Yip: Non-local students have reached the 50% cap; we could recruit up to 70% but must first achieve greater diversity

HKUST President Nancy Yip supports the government's phased relaxation of the non-local undergraduate intake at the eight universities to 50% of locally approved places, saying HKUST has already reached the cap and has the capacity to recruit up to 70% if expanded further. She stressed that the healthy development of universities must be considered first, with student sources made international and diversified. Besides students from the mainland, there are also students from South Korea, Japan, India and Indonesia, and the university also recruits in the Middle East and Central Asia.
