Employers/contractors and employees must note electrical safety when working during rainstorms
The Labour Department reminds employers and contractors that they should, as far as possible, avoid assigning employees to carry out electrical work or handle electrical operating devices in areas affected by rainstorm weather, and should refer to the Code of Practice in Adverse Weather and "Extreme Situations" and the Guide to Work Safety in Adverse Weather. Even when carrying out construction work in areas not affected by rainstorms, they must isolate power sources, lock off and test circuits, and provide personal protective equipment such as insulating gloves and insulating mats to avoid electric shock accidents. Safety publications can be obtained free of charge from the Labour Department's district offices or downloaded from the website.
