Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan introduced optimised measures for construction and traffic noise management and consulted members on proposed amendments to the Noise Control (Motor Vehicles) Regulations (Cap. 400I) at a meeting of the LegCo Panel on Environmental Affairs. The Government proposes, without changing noise standards, to simplify the construction noise permit application procedure for Northern Metropolis development, with contractors ensuring compliance through real-time on-site monitoring. The proposed amendments include adopting national standards and United Nations regulations, bringing motor tricycles under regulation, and making the noise exemption for electric vehicles a statutory exemption.
