Legislative Council Question 18: Enhancing the facilities and hygiene standards of public toilets

Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan written reply to the Legislative Council: the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department thoroughly cleans public toilets under its purview at least twice daily, and the contract stipulates that contractors must repair minor damaged facilities within 24 hours. The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has installed air purification systems in more than 130 public toilets, while another 15 public toilets are equipped with the "Smart Public Toilet System" for real-time monitoring of odours. The authorities said that adding washbasins inside toilet cubicles would reduce the total number of cubicles and increase the risk of slips, and that they would closely monitor design trends.
