Centre for Health Protection: No current data showing laboratory staff in Russia contracted pneumonic plague; no reports of unexplained disease received in Hong Kong

The Centre for Health Protection said there is currently no data indicating that the case of laboratory staff at a research facility in Irkutsk Oblast, Siberia, Russia, who died of severe pneumonia of unknown cause, was pneumonic plague. The Centre has proactively sought further information from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Russian health authorities, and Hong Kong has received no reports of unexplained disease.
