Shau Kei Wan tram derails, mounts pavement and crashes into shop; no injuries

A tram derailment occurred on Shau Kei Wan East Street at about 1am. A tram left the tracks, mounted the pavement and crashed into a ground-floor shop in a building, tilting on its side. A restaurant's signboard and canopy were damaged. No one was injured. Police received a report that the tram's overhead cable may have come loose. The tram was heading back to the Sai Wan Ho depot after leaving the Shau Kei Wan East Street terminus, and is suspected to have lost control and derailed while turning. The tram company has dispatched staff to inspect the tracks and arranged for a crane to tow the tram away.}};
