Centre for Food Safety Suspends Imports of Poultry Meat and Poultry Products from Washington State, US

The Centre for Food Safety has instructed the trade to immediately suspend imports of poultry meat and poultry products, including poultry eggs, from Kittitas County in Washington State, US, following an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza there. The centre has contacted the US authorities and will continue to monitor information from the World Organisation for Animal Health. According to the Census and Statistics Department, Hong Kong imported about 33,270 tonnes of chilled and frozen poultry meat and about 92.33 million poultry eggs from the US in the first 9 months of this year.
