HKU develops cancer health management app 'Home Support' to assist patients between follow-up appointments

HKU Faculty of Medicine has developed the cancer health management application 'Home Support', enabling patients with advanced cancer and their carers to continuously monitor their condition at home. If patients develop serious symptoms, nurses can be arranged to follow up within 2 days. The team analysed data from more than 600 patients and found that users were better able to maintain their quality of life and health satisfaction after 18 weeks, while the proportion of patients with unplanned hospital admissions and the average length of hospital stay were both lower than in the routine care group.
