Development Bureau studies amending ordinance so Buildings Department can strike off registered construction professionals involved in bid-rigging or bribery without hearing

The Development Bureau revealed it will study amending the Buildings Ordinance, under which registered construction professionals who commit offences under the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance or bid-rigging offences will be struck off the register directly by the Buildings Department, without going through a disciplinary hearing. Hung Ngai inspector Ng Yuet, who was accused of being a "rubber stamp" during the major renovation of Wang Fuk Court, was prosecuted by the Buildings Department last month and remains on the register; the Development Bureau said the case would be referred to the disciplinary committee in due course.
