Lam Wai-Kong Backs Optimising Work Heat Warning, Urges Legislation to Mandate Heat Stress Assessments

Labour sector lawmaker Lam Wai-kong backs the Labour Department's optimisation of the work heat warning at the end of August, saying the new mechanism raises the warning's sensitivity and the frequency of higher-level warnings, but cannot accurately reflect actual working environments such as construction sites, warehouses and kitchens, and suggests legislation to mandate employers to conduct heat stress assessments. He also suggests simplifying the rest and work-stoppage guidelines in the Guidance Notes on Prevention of Heat Stroke at Work, which are determined by work intensity and warning level.
