Labour and Welfare Secretary Gives Update on Site Smoking Ban and External Wall Material Regulation

Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said at a press conference that the Labour Department has fully banned smoking on construction sites since 17 July this year and has implemented the committee's recommendations to make contractors bear the statutory responsibility for the site smoking ban. The Labour Department has also amended its code of practice from 31 July this year, stipulating that the material of toe boards used on bamboo scaffolds and metal scaffolds must not increase fire risk, and will add dedicated staff to handle occupational safety matters for large-scale building maintenance works.
