Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and Hong Kong Monetary Authority complete first phase of DLT review, confirming legal environment supports tokenised bonds
財庫局與金管局進一步釋放分布式分類帳技術在香港固定收益市場的潛力
The Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and the Hong Kong Monetary Authority jointly announced today (June 29) that they had completed the first phase of the review on facilitating the application of distributed ledger technology (DLT) in Hong Kong's fixed income market. The results showed that the existing legal and regulatory environment is sufficiently flexible to support the issuance of tokenised bonds. The Companies Registry issued frequently asked questions on the same day, confirming that registers of debenture holders kept using DLT comply with the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622); the next phase of the review will commence in the second half of this year.
The announcement sets out the conclusions of the first phase and the timetable for the next phase, and includes a link to the Companies Registry's frequently asked questions, making it easier for the market to check the compliance basis for record-keeping using DLT.
