Yuen Kwok-Yung Quotes Under a Vast Sky to Urge Students to Persist with Ideals Despite Cold Looks and Mockery

Yuen Kwok-Yung, chair professor of the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong's Faculty of Medicine, used Beyond's classic song Under a Vast Sky to describe his years of scientific research, saying he faced countless cold looks and doubts, with some even saying his research findings were "of no practical value". He cited as an example that when his team discovered various animal viruses from nature, people questioned whether they would spread, but he chose to stick to what was right, and he encouraged young people not to abandon their ideals because of others' mockery.
