Foreign Banks Trim China Branch Networks as Low Returns Test Strategy

Nearly 20 years after foreign banks were allowed to handle renminbi business for local clients, they are still adjusting their China strategies. Citigroup has exited China retail banking, while other foreign banks continue to close branches and sub-branches, shifting to digital services, wealth management and core clients.
