Highways Department Requires MTR to Submit Report Within Two Weeks on Construction Quality Issues at Tung Chung West Station Pillars

The Highways Department said it received notification from MTR on Monday that some concrete pillars at the platform level of the Tung Chung West Station site had construction quality problems, and that the contractor had attempted repairs under an unapproved construction method. MTR has instructed that the works concerned be stopped. The department has required MTR to submit a detailed investigation report within two weeks and urged the contractor to carry out repairs at its own cost as soon as possible. The target of opening the Tung Chung Line Extension in 2029 remains unchanged.
