The Policy Address proposes importing foreign domestic carers. Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun expects the first batch to arrive in Hong Kong no later than the second half of next year. Sun said the relevant training hours total at least 150 hours, equivalent to the requirement for care workers in local residential homes, and that Hong Kong does not accept local domestic helpers converting to foreign domestic carers; they must return to their place of origin to undergo training at their own expense and pass an assessment. The starting numbers will be limited, beginning with several hundred.
