Priscilla Leung Proposes Turning Fourth Year of Bachelor's Degrees Into Internship Year; Christine Choi: University Education Is Not for Supplying Manpower

Business and Professionals Alliance for Hong Kong's Priscilla Leung raised an oral question at the Legislative Council, proposing that the fourth year of four-year bachelor's degree programmes be changed into an internship year so students can gain early exposure to the workplace. Secretary for Education Christine Choi responded that university education is not tailor-made manpower supply for job vacancies at a particular point in time, and that reforming curricula based solely on manpower shortage data would cause "homogeneous mismatch", while compulsory one-year full-time internships would also compress learning time.
