LCSD to test high-mounted AI cameras for drowning detection at pools in first quarter of next year

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announced that it will introduce an AI drowning detection system at public swimming pools, using multiple high-definition cameras mounted high above the pools to capture real-time images, and employing computer vision and deep learning algorithms to identify suspected drowning cases. The first phase of testing is expected to be launched in the first quarter of next year at the main pool of Morse Park Swimming Pool and the main pool of Ma On Shan Swimming Pool, after which, depending on the test results, the department will seek to gradually expand the system to more public swimming pools over the coming years.
