Minimum wage for foreign domestic workers raised to $5,220; Chris Sun says increase is reasonable and moderate; lawmakers urge tax support for middle-class families

The statutory minimum wage for foreign domestic workers will be raised by $120 to $5,220 per month, an increase of 2.35%, while the food and accommodation allowance will remain at least $1,236 per month. Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun said the increase was reasonable and moderate, with average annual increases of between 2% and 2.5% over the past many years. Lawmaker Judy Chan proposed tax deductions for middle-class employers, and old contracts can be submitted to the Immigration Department on or before 30 October.
