EPD: Air Quality Health Index risk at some monitoring stations reaches serious level, expected to improve later tomorrow

The Environmental Protection Department said Hong Kong recorded higher-than-usual air pollution levels this afternoon, with the health risk category of the Air Quality Health Index at some air quality monitoring stations reaching the serious level. Light winds in the afternoon were unfavourable for the dispersion of pollutants, while abundant sunshine promoted photochemical smog activity, causing ozone and fine particulates to form rapidly across the Pearl River Delta region. According to the Observatory's forecast, a fresh easterly airstream will reach the coast of Guangdong later tomorrow, by which time air quality is expected to improve.
