AFCD catches roaming dogs again, says 'no intention to implement TNR'

AI briefing

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department launched a new wave of 'Special Operations' yesterday, prioritising over the next 4 months high-risk locations where there had been dog attacks on people and where stray dogs congregate to catch unattended dogs, and stressed that it has no intention of implementing TNR and will not release unattended dogs back into the community. Animal welfare groups called for 'Trap-Neuter-Return', while the department said the pilot scheme between 2015 and 2018 failed to meet the performance indicator of reducing the number of stray dogs, and therefore there is currently no related plan.
