Abby Choi case resumes at High Court; defence says Kwok Kong-chi helped repay debts, Choi's mother denies gambling debts and denounces smear campaign

The Abby Choi case continued its hearing at the High Court yesterday, with Choi's mother Cheung Yen-fa cross-examined by senior counsel representing Kwok Kong-chi. The defence said Cheung had incurred gambling debts while playing mahjong and asked Choi and Kwok Kong-chi for money, and that Choi even mortgaged her Manhattan Hill unit to help repay the debts. Cheung denied owing gambling debts, saying it was a smear campaign, and also denied dragging Kwok Kong-chi into the case out of hatred for Kwok Kau.
