Environment and Ecology Bureau says some taxi owners are not participating in the electric taxi subsidy scheme due to changes in the economic environment

The Environment and Ecology Bureau said that as of the end of August, there were over 1600 electric taxis in Hong Kong, with the subsidy scheme launched in 2024 targeting 3000 vehicles, and 1152 vehicles having completed licensing and eligible for the subsidy. Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan replied in writing to a legislator, saying that in the latest round, 1343 taxi owners did not respond before the deadline at the beginning of the month, with some cautiously considering vehicle replacement investment due to changes in the economic environment in recent years.
