Hong Kong Spirit Award: Gaza nurse overcomes numerous obstacles on path to professor

Hammoda Abu-Odah, a Gaza-trained nurse now working as a scholar in Hong Kong, had six opportunities to study overseas, all of which did not materialise because of border closures and travel restrictions, before finally making it to Hong Kong on his seventh attempt. He obtained his nursing degree in Gaza, during which time he continued working, teaching and conducting research in order to achieve his goal of building an academic career overseas.
