HKU Medical School develops mobile app to help home-based patients with advanced cancer monitor their condition continuously

HKU Medical School has developed Hong Kong's first one-stop cancer health management app, 'Home Support', enabling home-based patients with advanced cancer to monitor their condition continuously and receive online nurse support. A two-year study, in collaboration with six public hospitals, followed more than 1,200 patients over 18 weeks, of whom 590 users experiencing severe symptoms received follow-up from a dedicated nurse within one to two working days. After 18 weeks, users' proportion of unplanned hospital admissions fell, while their confidence in self-care improved significantly.
