Electrical and Mechanical Services Department Says 48 New Lifts in Two Estates Lack Fire Door Frames; Contractor Faces Enforcement Action
Lifts contractor faces regulatory action over missing fire safety parts at gov’t-run estates
The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said in a statement at midnight on Friday that registered contractor Taizoom had serious deficiencies in lift replacement works involving 9 lifts at Tsui Ping (North) Estate in Kwun Tong and 39 lifts at Pok Hong Estate in Sha Tin; although it submitted fire rating certificates, it installed only fire doors without the corresponding door frame components. The department said the lifts could still operate safely, did not rule out fraud and false statements and referred the matter to police, has required the contractor to bear the repair costs and complete them within one month, and the Housing Department has also suspended tendering for the Fu Heng Estate lift contract.
