H5N1 Bird Flu Outbreak in Slagelse, Denmark; Centre for Food Safety Orders Suspension of Poultry Meat and Poultry Product Imports from Area

A highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu outbreak has occurred in Slagelse, Denmark, and the Centre for Food Safety has immediately instructed the trade to suspend imports of poultry meat and poultry products from the area. Hong Kong imported about 390 tonnes of chilled poultry meat from Denmark in the first half of this year; the centre has contacted the Danish authorities and will continue to monitor information from the World Organisation for Animal Health.
