Transport Bureau Says Bus Fare Increases Handled Prudently, Considering Public Acceptance and Bus Operations
運物局稱審慎處理巴士加價 考慮公眾接受程度及巴士營運等因素
Yip Hoi-ying, Deputy Secretary for Transport and Logistics, told the Legislative Council Panel on Transport that the fare increase applications from 4 bus companies would be handled prudently and rigorously, taking into account factors including public acceptance and the companies' sustainable operations, and that recommendations would be formed after consulting the Transport Advisory Committee and submitted to the Chief Executive and the Executive Council for consideration. Citybus proposed a fare increase of 17.7 per cent, the highest among them, and multiple lawmakers were dissatisfied that the increase exceeded inflation and employee pay rises.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau explained to the Legislative Council the factors considered in approving bus fare increases, and stated that a decision would be made by the Chief Executive in Council only after consulting the Transport Advisory Committee.
