Secretary for Development Bernadette Linn says the government is preparing to establish the Building Maintenance Support and Services Bureau, which will begin operating by the end of the year and launch services from January next year, and owners applying for government maintenance subsidies must use the full-process service. The authorities also plan to submit proposed amendments to the Buildings Ordinance to the Legislative Council by the end of this year, making large-scale building maintenance a separate new works category and requiring Buildings Department permission before construction begins.
The Development Bureau announces the operating timetable for the Building Maintenance Support and Services Bureau and the direction of amendments to the Buildings Ordinance, allowing readers to check whether they will be affected by the new procedures and penalties.
