Buildings Department Says About 30 Concrete Columns at Tung Chung West Station Improperly Constructed, Posing No Structural Danger

The Buildings Department says about 30 concrete columns on the platform level of MTR Tung Chung West Station were found to have been improperly constructed after formwork removal, and has required the registered structural engineer to submit an investigation report and remedial proposals by mid-this month. The department says temporary supports for the floor slab have not yet been removed, the situation will not pose a danger to the station structure, and a preliminary review found no deliberate deviation from the plans.
