Centre for Health Protection records severe case of 11-year-old girl with chronic illness developing severe pneumonia from influenza A

The Centre for Health Protection today recorded a severe case of a child infected with influenza. A 11-year-old girl with a chronic illness has been clinically diagnosed with severe pneumonia caused by influenza A. She is currently receiving treatment in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at Queen Mary Hospital and is in serious condition. The centre urged the public to receive seasonal influenza vaccination as soon as possible and to maintain good personal and environmental hygiene at all times.
