Policy Forum | Tony Yip Hopes to Improve Difficulty for New Territories Residents in Hailing Taxis

DAB legislator Tony Yip suggested referring to the cross-harbour taxi stand concept, setting up dedicated taxi stands at some public transport interchanges for passengers travelling to urban areas, to improve the difficulty for New Territories residents in finding taxis. He observed that red taxis refuse passengers in areas such as Yiu On Estate and Kam Ying Estate in Ma On Shan, and suggested that the government should first properly handle the regulation of ride-hailing services, before gradually reviewing the number of licences and specific operations of red taxis, green taxis and Lantau taxis.
