HSBC Plans to Set Up AI and Emerging Technology Research Institute in Northern Metropolis, Operational Early Next Year

HSBC plans to set up a global "AI and Emerging Technology Research Institute" in the Northern Metropolis, operational early next year, to develop new and innovative technologies applicable across the group's businesses. The institute is partnering with academic and technology partners including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, initially focusing on areas such as talent upskilling, AI safety and fraud detection, post-quantum cryptography and blockchain. HSBC said the institute's location in the Northern Metropolis reflects the group's commitment to Hong Kong's long-term development and supports Hong Kong's development into an international innovation and technology hub.
