One new confirmed monkeypox case in Hong Kong, a 29-year-old man in stable condition, has been sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for isolation treatment, with clinical samples testing positive for the monkeypox virus. He had high-risk sexual contact with men during the incubation period. The Centre for Health Protection said that in recent months, more than half of the cases involved finding unfamiliar sexual partners through dating apps, and contact tracing was not possible for some cases, urging the public to keep contact details of their sexual partners.

The Centre for Health Protection on 9 October investigated a cluster of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales carriage cases at an elderly home in North Point, involving 3 residents on the same floor, all of whom are carriers, asymptomatic and in stable condition. The 3 people are aged between 74 and 94. The centre said the source may have come from 2 other known carriers on the same floor, and that the home had not implemented relevant infection control measures. It will continue to conduct screening and medical surveillance at the home.

Police College to launch applied degree programme, force expects it to help attract more recruits

The Police College will launch an applied degree programme, making it the first department in the HKSAR Government approved to offer a bachelor's degree programme. It targets officer-rank police officers who do not hold a bachelor's degree, and successful applicants will receive full funding to study. The force believes the programme can enhance the quality of personnel and help attract more people to apply to join the police; the force also plans to establish the Hong Kong International Police Academy next month, hoping to tell Hong Kong's and China's stories through training and exchanges.

HKU Medical School develops mobile app to help home-based patients with advanced cancer monitor their condition continuously

HKU Medical School has developed Hong Kong's first one-stop cancer health management app, 'Home Support', enabling home-based patients with advanced cancer to monitor their condition continuously and receive online nurse support. A two-year study, in collaboration with six public hospitals, followed more than 1,200 patients over 18 weeks, of whom 590 users experiencing severe symptoms received follow-up from a dedicated nurse within one to two working days. After 18 weeks, users' proportion of unplanned hospital admissions fell, while their confidence in self-care improved significantly.
