Cross-border stock trading | Several Chinese brokerages in Hong Kong restrict mainland IP clients to selling and fund withdrawals only
Since September, several Chinese brokerages in Hong Kong have required existing domestic investors logging in with mainland IPs to only sell, close positions and transfer out funds, and not to buy, open positions or transfer in funds. This involves Guotai Junan International, CSC International, Shenwan Hongyuan Securities (Hong Kong), Soochow Securities International and others. The relevant adjustment stems from the Implementation Plan for the Comprehensive Rectification of Illegal Cross-border Securities, Futures and Fund Business Activities, jointly issued by the Securities and Futures Commission and seven other departments on 22 May, which sets a two-year concentrated rectification period. Several brokerages have stopped accepting new account openings from investors with mainland identities.
