This year marks the 160th birth anniversary of Sun Yat-sen, the Father of the Nation. The government has announced that an official commemorative ceremony will be held on 12 November at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Park to honour Sun Yat-sen's immortal contributions to national independence, social progress and the people's wellbeing. There are 43 official events in total, and cosmos will be planted beside the bronze statue in Sun Yat-sen Park, emulating the Father of the Nation's former residence.

Development Bureau Submits Subsidiary Legislation on Land Searches, Requiring Specified Purposes or Public Interest and a Declaration

The Development Bureau has submitted 8 pieces of subsidiary legislation to the Legislative Council to complement the new land title registration system, restricting search arrangements under the existing Land Registration Ordinance and for future new land, with searches permitted only for specified purposes or where accepted as serving the public interest. Development Bureau Gazettes Eight Subsidiary Regulations as New Land Title Registration System to Be Implemented in First Half of Next Year

The Development Bureau today gazetted eight subsidiary regulations, proposing four new subsidiary regulations under the Land Titles Ordinance and amending four subsidiary regulations under the Land Registration Ordinance, the High Court Ordinance and the District Court Ordinance, to set out implementation details for the title registration system on new land in the first half of next year. New land means land held under a Government lease granted on or after the day the amended Land Titles Ordinance comes into effect, generally including land granted by way of land sale, private treaty grant and land exchange. The eight subsidiary regulations will be submitted to the Legislative Council next Wednesday for the negative vetting procedure.

Chief Executive John Lee accepted the recommendation of the Judicial Officers Recommendation Commission and, after obtaining the consent of the Legislative Council, appointed Aurand as a non-permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal from another common law jurisdiction under the Basic Law and the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal Ordinance. Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal Andrew Cheung welcomed the appointment. Aurand retired as a permanent judge of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in April 2017. After the appointment, the list will include 6 distinguished judges from the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Housing Bureau Says 1,850 Wang Fuk Court Owners Have Signed Sale Agreements, 93.2% of Total

The Housing Bureau says the deadline for owners at Tai Po's Wang Fuk Court to sign sale agreements for the sale of their flats expired yesterday, with 1,850 owners across Blocks A to H having signed, accounting for 93.2 per cent of the total number of units. Some owners were unable to sign before the deadline due to ownership issues such as the need for probate, bankruptcy, ownership disputes or being outside Hong Kong, and the government will consider arrangements on a discretionary basis according to individual circumstances and continue to follow up on the procedures for transferring the deeds.
