A 26-year-old female officer passed away after massive bleeding following the birth of her daughter by induced labour at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 2016. The family complained to the Medical Council about 3 doctors the following year, and the Medical Council recently concluded the handling of the case due to insufficient evidence, without convening an inquiry. The family wrote to the Secretary for Health yesterday to lodge a complaint, questioning whether the experts of the Medical Council's Preliminary Inquiry Committee had failed to take into account multiple pieces of Coroner's Court evidence, including the cause of death related to a hysterectomy performed without replenishing clotting factors.
Mary Hospital registered lift engineer Lo Wing-chai was charged with submitting false or misleading documents and issuing safety certificates despite unsatisfactory inspection results, was convicted, and on 23 last month was sentenced to 160 hours of community service. The case involved multiple lifts in Clinical Building 1 being taken out of service for maintenance, resulting in clinical services being unable to commence.
