Ombudsman announces own-initiative investigation into effectiveness of LCSD management of indoor fitness rooms

Ombudsman Jack Chan Chi-chi announced on 13 October an own-initiative investigation into the effectiveness of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's management of indoor fitness rooms, covering eligibility requirements for entry, the booking system, utilisation rates, monitoring measures and equipment maintenance. The LCSD has 87 fitness rooms under its purview, and members of the public must first complete an orientation session or training course before they can hire the facilities. In 2025, the total number of places for orientation sessions was about 25,000, while registrations throughout the year reached 377,000 person-times. Good Old Soil aims to build a sustainable future for Lantau's rural communities

Community organisation Good Old Soil, supported by the Land Education Foundation, works with farmers, young people, restaurants, craftspeople and businesses in Lantau to build a local economy that can sustain itself after individual funding ends.
