KMB, Long Win Bus, Citybus and New Lantao Bus have applied for fare increases ranging from 8.1% to 17.7%, with Citybus proposing the highest rise. A Transport and Logistics Bureau paper submitted to LegCo said that high fuel prices and rising operating and labour costs were factors; Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mable Chan said the government would balance the companies' financial position with members of the public's affordability; some legislators suggested making better use of depot and public transport interchange space to generate revenue.
